Cruz Marcelo & Tenefrancia conducted on 30 September 2021 a lecture on the Data Privacy Act of 2012 as part of the virtual training on data privacy of Fresenius Kabi Philippines, Inc., a global healthcare company specializing in lifesaving medicines and technologies for infusion, transfusion, and clinical nutrition.
Gian Angelo E. Chua, an Associate and a member of its Data Privacy Practice Group and Intellectual Property Department, discussed the background, significance, scope, and key terms of the Data Privacy Act, its salient similarities and differences with the European Union General Data Protection Regulation, the rights of data subjects, and the lawful grounds for the processing of personal data.
Jerome D. Canlas, a Senior Associate and a member of its Data Privacy Practice Group and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, tackled the essential obligations of controllers and processors under the Data Privacy Act, such as breach reporting and the implementation of appropriate security measures. Mr. Canlas also discussed the penalties under the Data Privacy Act and shared key updates on the current regulatory landscape.
