Mathew Utan is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, where he focuses on the litigation and enforcement of intellectual property rights. His practice spans trademark and patent prosecution, and he is seasoned in handling complex IP disputes—ranging from opposition and cancellation proceedings to infringement actions.
Mathew has played a key role in several high-profile cases. He successfully secured an injunction against a major grocery chain over in-house brands that mimicked a leading company’s trademarks, represented a global luxury watchmaker in a hard-fought trademark cancellation case, and handled intricate patent infringement disputes for multinational clients against foreign entities.
Beyond IP, Mathew brings valuable litigation experience in civil and criminal matters involving banking law violations and public procurement issues.
He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 2020, after graduating cum laude with a degree in Language and Literature from UP Baguio.
