Simeon V. Marcelo, Elmar B. Galacio, and Jacques S. Lynn contributed the Philippine Chapter “International Arbitration 2020” (6th Edition) published by Global Legal Insights (“GLI”), a series providing readers with expert analysis of legal, economic and policy developments through the eyes of the world’s leading lawyers.
The Philippine Chapter covers key topics in relation to Philippine arbitration laws and regulations including arbitration agreements and procedures, arbitrators, interim relief, arbitration awards, challenge and enforcement of awards, and international arbitration. It includes an overview of the Philippine Arbitration system with practical insights on the leading arbitration institutions in the Philippines, as well as updates on recent Supreme Court rulings regarding arbitration.
Mr. Marcelo served as a member of an International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”) Arbitral Tribunal in two significant inter-related international cases (2012–2014). He was one of the founding Trustees of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (1996) and the first Corporate Secretary of the Philippine Chapter of the International Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Galacio is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law and has obtained an Oxford Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration (DiplCIArb). He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), senior litigator, and Deputy General Counsel of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
Ms. Lynn has represented clients before the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission (CIAC) as well as ad hoc arbitrations, and is a Trained Arbitrator of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI). She completed an ICC Institute Training on International Commercial Arbitration in Tokyo (2016) and an ICC Institute Training in International Contracts in Paris (2015), as well as several workshops of the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum in Tokyo (2016 & 2014).
