In celebration of its 6th anniversary, Cruz Marcelo & Tenefrancia (“CMT”) held a film screening of “Honor: The Legacy of Jose Abad Santos”, a 2018 documentary-film directed and written by Bani Logroño, on 18 June 2019 at the Bonifacio High Street Central Square Cinema. The firm’s name partners, Avelino J. Cruz, Jr., Simeon V. Marcelo, and Joe Nathan P. Tenefrancia, led the partners and associates in welcoming clients and friends.
In his welcome remarks, Managing Partner Joe Nathan P. Tenefrancia cited the firm’s founding on the core values of integrity, professionalism, meritocracy, and mutual respect. He also paid tribute to the late Justice Jose Abad Santos, who, as a statesman, a lawyer, and an exemplary Filipino, serves as an inspiration for the firm and its lawyers.
The film seeks to educate contemporary audiences on the legacy of the Philippines’ 5th Supreme Court Chief Justice, Jose Abad Santos, and the heroic tale of his refusal to collaborate during the Japanese occupation.
The film’s executive producer and co-writer, Desiree Ann Cua Benipayo, also attended the event and answered questions in the brief open forum that followed the screening. CMT’s sponsorship of the film screening will make it possible for it to be viewed in at least 10-12 public schools.
