Professional Background

Ms. Rañola is an Associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, with a focus on patents and IP commercialization.

As a member of the firm’s Patent Group, she has experience in patent drafting, conducting prior art searches, Freedom-to-Operate searches, validity analyses, and infringement analyses, and handling complex patent litigation cases. She has advised on patentability and non-infringement, crafted litigation strategies as both complainant and defendant, and engaged in numerous IP clinics with Filipino inventors. She also regularly works on the prosecution of PCT and local patent applications with the Philippine Intellectual Property Office (“IPOPHL”), from filing and examination to allowance and maintenance.

As part of her commercialization practice, she has worked with local and international clients to ensure the enforceability of their licensing, franchising, and research collaboration agreements, assisted in the registration of technology transfer agreements with the Documentation, Information, and Technology Transfer Bureau of the IPOPHL, and provided counsel on a wide range of regulatory and compliance matters in the Philippines. She also liaises with foreign correspondents regarding various IP requirements across different industries.

Ms. Rañola obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law in 2023. She was the Chair of the Philippine Law Journal Student Editorial Board for Volume 96 and a recipient of the Violeta Calvo-Drilon–ACCRALAW Merit Award. She also worked as a research assistant for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. She graduated as a Dean’s Medalist with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines School of Economics in 2019, and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2023.
